"Food and Climate Change - Without the Hot Air - Change your diet: the easiest way to help save the planet" Author Sarah Bridle is a professor of astronomy and cosmology at the University of Manchester who has turned her attention to food and climate change.

Overview

Originally recommended by Alison Shedlock, Head of Hospitality and Events at the University of Manchester, Alison's colleague Professor Sarah Bridle is holding a virtual book launch on the 26th of August at 5:30pm. (The book is published on the 3rd of September). Sarah will engage and speak with others on how the publication will convey how different foods contribute to climate change. The book will look at:

  • Which foods emit most greenhouse gases?
  • How much food is wasted globally each year?
  • What daily choices can we make to reduce the effects of our food on the environment?
  • How will the government’s dietary guidelines (less meat, more veg) affect our greenhouse emissions (not to mention our overall health)?

A quarter of our carbon emissions comes from food. Professor Bridle is the first to assess all the different kinds of greenhouse gas emissions and put them into one measure (gCO2e), then compares different foods using this measure with colourful diagrams that are easy to understand.
